Talks between Mr. Lavrov und Mr. Kerry were ‘successfully’ concluded this Saturday afternoon, say the Swiss media – and others. Strange though, that no representative of the Syrian Government was present, surely not invited. How does that fit with a world that seeks equality and democracy? – The country of which the future – life or death – is being debated is not even present. How come the world at large just accepts this abnormality – no questions asked?
The arrival of the two delegations of Foreign Ministers Sergey Lavrov and John Kerry at Geneva’s Hotel Intercontinental on Thursday was quite a sight to see. First Kerry’s convoy of about a dozen black and blinded blue-light, heavy 4x4’s with sirens stopped in front of the Intercontinental gates. Mr. Kerry debarked like royalty amidst camera flashes and a forest of reporters’ mikes, waving with a condescending smile. In the late afternoon, Mr. Lavrov arrived without fanfare and without a tie – but all the more a serious contender for his US counterpart.
Little news leaked from the high-level conference until Friday night, when the apparent gap to reach an agreement was wide. But negotiations went on until late at night…..
Then this Saturday morning a breakthrough was reported by the NY Times – repeated by most western media – “A significant sign of movement at the United Nations came when the Obama administration effectively took force off the table in discussions over the shape of a Security Council resolution governing any deal with Syria. Although Mr. Obama reserved the right to order an American military strike without the United Nations’ backing if Syria reneges on its commitments, senior officials said he understood that Russia would never allow a Security Council resolution authorizing force ….. [The] statement simply acknowledged the reality on the Security Council, where Russia wields a veto and has vowed to block any military action against Syria, its ally”.
The NY Times goes on, saying that Obama decided to concede the point to bring to fore his desire to forge a diplomatic compromise, this in the face of France’s proposal for a threat of military action. France is one of the last supporters of US/NATO force.
The statement in the NY Times gives all the credit to Mr. Obama’s ‘flexibility’ – a US President who lacks the support at home in both Congress and the public at large. However, here comes the face-saver – “The president [Obama] would not agree to Syria’s demand to renounce any use of force, said the [US] officials, who argued that it was the threat of force that had brought Moscow and Damascus to the negotiating table”. – When in reality this Geneva Conference was a peace initiative by Russia. Moscow has worked hard to help Obama avoiding an international prestige disaster - and perhaps WWIII.
In the end, it came down to the inventory of C-weapons to be destroyed according to a specific time table. Kerry arrived with a figure from his ‘intelligence’ of 1,000 tons of C-weapons to be destroyed. Russia’s assessment was substantially lower. Two days of talks, brought the two parties closer. However no agreed ‘estimate’ was revealed.
The bottom line this Saturday – 14 September – was an apparent agreement. Starting immediately, Syria under international supervision, had to produce an inventory of their C-weapons stockpiles – within a week. Then the Weapons of Mass Destruction – WMDs had to be shipped out of Syria to a yet un-named location and destroyed under international supervision by mid-2014.
Syria also agreed to sign the C-weapons Convention.
As any expert would say – to establish such an inventory is a complex matter and a one-week deadline is extremely short. – What will happen if it is not met? – Will Obama again flex his military muscle to some of the Western world’s delight?
Also, apart from the Syrian Government’s absence from the negotiating table --- nothing was mentioned, at least not reported, (i) about who used the C-weapons in the 21 August attack; (ii) about the destruction of Israel’s WMDs, including C-weapons, nuclear warheads (Israel has not signed the C-weapons Convention, or the Nuclear Non-proliferation Treaty); and (iii) the destruction of other C-weapons arsenals, like the world’s largest one in the US.
Not reporting on the fact that Mr. Assad never used C-weapons, will perhaps safe Obama’s face, but it doesn’t do anything to rightfully help recover the Assad regime’s reputation in the light of the western media lies that, as of this moment, keep portraying the Syrian Government as having used poison gas against its people. The inspectors’ report is in. Though they were not allowed to point the finger at who did use the C-weapons, the fact is known to both the Americans and the Russians. He never did. The world is allowed to know the truth; the world should know that they have been lied to.
A related point is – what does the agreement say about disarming the opposition which clearly is in possession of chemical WMDs?
In the same vein, prominently absent from the talks (or the reporting from the talks) was the Saudi ‘Prince Bandar effect’. Bandar is known for having delivered to the Syrian opposition, the CIA-recruited ‘rebels’ – probably as a proxy for Washington – sarin and other C-weapons.
What if Bandar continues with these deliveries to the opposition forces – and, as they are losing the civil war, they keep using them, killing and maiming more Syrians?
Will Washington insist that Bashar al-Assad had not turned over all of his C-stock, but was hiding some poison gas and is using it now (again) against his own people – another false flag – to make the world believe that the first false flag was indeed real?
It is unlikely that Moscow would let that happen. However, in this whole process the Obama regime is buying time – time to (i) reshuffle its plans for the execution of the PNAC – not to lose sight of the end-goal / end-game – the One World Order, to which Obama is committed vis-à-vis his corporate and financial masters; and (ii) time to prepare for a possible western economic collapse and to introduce a new US dominated monetary / economic system to protect the prevailing financial and corporate elite’s interests.
Caution is in order. Therefore, the BRICS economy, combined with that of members of the Shanghai Cooperation and of other unaligned countries around the world, has the power to derail bloodlessly and at will the US killing machine on its way to the One World Order.
