Some Bible Verses On Modesty

Bible Verses On MODESTY:

Deuteronomy 22:5 says,

"The woman shall not wear that which pertaineth unto a man, neither shall a man put on a woman's garment: for all that do so are abomination unto the LORD thy God."


The Bible in First Timothy 2:9 says,

Tells women to adorn themselves in a long flowing garment, not a short, tight garment. That is what modest is, long and flowing. Pants do not flow. Also, women are commanded to dress with shamefacedness. That simply means they are not to draw attention to themselves. And pants draw attention to the woman's figure. So if you wear a pair of pants, or even a tight skirt, it shows the figure and it is not shamefacedness, or modest, because it doesn't flow. It shows the figure and it stimulates men. And of course, you should not want to dress in such a way that it stimulates the lusts of a man.



First Corinthians chapter 13 that says,

"Charity doth not behave itself unseemly." You shouldn't seek to do things that would cause someone to fall. Jesus said that if a man looks on a woman with lust in his heart, he has already committed adultery with her. Do you realize that if you dress in such a way that it shows your form and figure, and some man lusts after you, you have just let him commit adultery with you? "Well, he didn't have to look." Yes, and he could have also driven blindfolded into a tree somewhere. Get real. Granted, a man should know how to keep control of his mind, but women ought not to be tempting him either. So only a full and flowing skirt qualifies as a 'katastole' (a long flowing garment). The second reason why shorts and mini-skirts would be inappropriate for a woman is because the Bible specifically says that when a woman's thighs show, she is NAKED.


Isaiah 47:2-3 says

"Take the millstones, and grind meal: uncover thy locks, make bare the leg, uncover the thigh, pass over the rivers. Thy nakedness shall be uncovered, yea, thy shame shall be seen: I will take vengeance, and I will not meet thee as a man." Here was a women who wanted to cross a river. God wanted to disgrace the woman, (If you read the text in Isaiah chapter forty-seven, you will see why.) so He commanded her to walk across the river, then, to lift up her skirt so her thigh would show. And God said that when her thigh was exposed, she would be naked and her shame would be revealed. We read that she was told to uncover the locks, to make bare the leg, uncover the thigh and "thy nakedness shall be uncovered."


Well, what about FASHION?

First Corinthians 7:31 says,

"And they that use this world, as not abusing it: for the fashion of this world passeth away." So we don't want to be a slave of fashion. We don't want to necessarily spend all of our money, time and resources making sure we have the latest styles and fads, but at the same time, we don't have to throw away our clothes because they happen to be fashionable.


Is Covering the Hair a Religious Commandment for every Women?

1 Corin. 11:5 says,

"But any woman who prays and prophecies with her head unveiled dishonours her head - it is the same as if her head were shaven, for if a woman will not veil herself then she should cut off her hair. But if it is disgraceful for a woman to be shorn or shaven, let her wear a veil. JUDGE FOR YOURSELVES; is it proper for a woman to pray to God with her head uncovered?"


What About MAKE-UP & PERFUME?

Bible says a woman is supposed to dress with moderation and with sobriety. The Bible says, "Let your moderation be known unto all men" (Philippians 4:5). There is nothing in the Bible that says makeup and perfume are wicked. In fact, in the book of Esther, after she had bathed, she anointed her body (Esther 2:9). More than likely, she put on perfume. Granted, some who would oppose the use of cosmetics and perfume would point out verses in the Bible such as Isaiah 57:9, Jeremiah 4:30, II Kings 9:30, Ezekiel 23:40, Revelation 18:12-13, where wicked women wore perfume or wore makeup. They point out where Jezebel wore makeup, and the whore of Revelation wore makeup, THEREFORE IT IS A SIN TO WEAR MAKE-UP!


First Corinthians 7:4 says,

"The wife hath not power of her own body, but the husband." YOUR BEAUTY IS FOR YOUR HUSBAND ONLY! and not for Everyone's EYES.
[A common misconception is that Muslim women are the only ones who cover their head. It may be true that Islam is the only religion in which most women follow its directives to cover the head, but it is not the only religion to have such directives. And for those who attack the veil in Islam should read these Bible verse:
"Judge not, that you be not judged. For with the judgment you pronounce you will be judged, and the measure you give will be the measure you get."(Matthew 7:1-12)]
